Sorel Taking Over Connecticut
Sorel, the wonderful organic hibiscus liqueur distilled in Brooklyn by The Liquortarian, has become a favorite of many Connecticut mixologists, including Dimitrios Elias Zahariadis, vice president of the Connecticut chapter of the United States Bartender’s Guild, owner-operator of The Cocktail Chemist and bartender at Vasi's Restaurant & Bar in Waterbury, home of the largest stucko Easter Island moai in America!
Summer Green Drinks 2014
This year Summer Green Drinks in Fairfield County was held at the new posh EVEN hotel in Norwalk, just North of the Merritt Parkway exit on Route 7, across the road from Diageo's lair. It was a low turn out, to be expected in August, but great sampling all the different organic spirits from Greenbar and ogling the new plug-in Porsche.

A Few Summer Things
Discovered a new farm stand in Westport, on Bayberry Lane, Belta's opened Friday and Saturday. Great looking organic vegetables, all grown in their back yard. 100 hens!
Have not tried it yet, but I like the name and the bottle, Defiant! Distilled in North Carolina.
Unhappy with Penzeys's reply "It's not what we look for" after we inquired about organic, irradiation and GMOs. So we are phasing out Penzey's from our spice rack. But I'm addicted to their Southwest Seasoning, looking for an organic equivalent. (salt, ancho pepper, onion, garlic, Tellicherry black pepper, Mexican oregano, cayenne red pepper, cumin, chipotle and cilantro.)
